US federal prosecutors have accused an Indian authorities official of orchestrating a plot to kill a Sikh activist in New York Metropolis, complicating the Biden administration’s efforts to spice up ties with India to assist counter China.

The US didn’t identify the goal of the alleged plot, however the FT has confirmed that he was Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, common counsel for Sikhs for Justice, a US-based group that’s a part of a separatist motion pushing for the creation of an unbiased Sikh state in India known as “Khalistan”.
